Sexting and Suicide

Has one of your friends ever posted pictures of you on their MySpace page that had you doing something you didn’t want the whole world to see? Maybe you looked like a dumbass or you were doing something illegal? That sucked right? But at least you could tell them to take it down or not label you in the pic.

But wait...it gets a lot worse. In september a girl in Florida "sexted" a boy she had a crush on. She sent a nude photo of herself to the kid. They call it sexting. Yeah, you heard me. S E X T I N G . So I think you can imagine the rest of the story, but I’ll tell it anyway.

The guy passed around the photo to other students, and suddenly the whole school had seen all of her. And the judging started immediately. People started calling the girl a slut and taunting her, nothing good. After almost a year and a half of this, she hanged herself. Sad.

That sucks. Someone lost their life because they were tragically embarassed. It’s not like it’s never happened before. Think Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian. I guess it’s just more common if it’s becoming a “trend”. The only  thing I can think to say is that people who are making this a “trend” better hope their going to be friends for life if they send that stuff, because it’ll be online in five minutes after you part ways, and it will be there forever!

I personally would never send out a photo like that, but is having people see an embarrassing pic of yourself enough to end your life?

I would have to agree with matt, yes it was wrong for that kid to exploit her, but still we cannot reach for the rope every time we get made fun of. If anything i think it builds character. There is no way we can eliminate humiliation at others expense but one thing we can do is learn how to cope and value our lives over all else. Petty jokes will come and go for all eternity but our lives come but once.

the people who sext put themselves in that situation it's their fault, their choice. It was selfish, immature, and stuipid for that girl to kill herself over it. I had more than one friend who had nude pics sent around in high school and they got made fun of but not one of them killed themselves.
